Parasitism of Nonhost Cultivars by Ditylenchus dipsaci.

The alfalfa race of Ditylenchus dipsaci parasitized and caused characteristic symptoms on nonhost seedlings of sweet clover, onion, tomato, sugarbeet, and wheat in controlled growth-chamber studies. Although the nematode was unable to reproduce on any of the cultivars, it caused plant mortality ranging from 20% on sugarbeet and tomato to 100% on onion.

Pyrrolizidine alkaloids from Lithospermum canescens Lehm.

Seven pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) have been isolated from Lithospermum canescens and their structures determined by spectroscopical methods. Besides the known lycopsamine, O7-acetyl-lycopsamine and O7-acetylintermedine four new PAs were found. Their structures are O7-(3-hydroxy-3-methyl-butanoyl)-O9-(+)-trachelanthoyl-heliotridine (= O7-(3-hydroxy-3-methyl-butanoyl)-rinderine = canescine), O7...

Biology of Diaphorina citri (Hem.: Liviidae) and parasitism by Psyllaephagus stenopsyllae (Hym.: Encyrtidae) in Baluchestan, Iran

Genetic Segregation in the Unisexual Wasp Devorgilla.

T H A T genetic mutations are prerequisite to evolution of the species is well recognized. The mechanism by which such mutations are segregated and recombined in bisexual species forms a large part of classical genetics. Less well known are the modifications, in unisexual species, of the same mechanisms to attain comparable ends. The segregation of genes in aberrant cases of diploid parthenogen...

Conditions Promoting Mycorrhizal Parasitism Are of Minor Importance for Competitive Interactions in Two Differentially Mycotrophic Species

Interactions of plants with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) may range along a broad continuum from strong mutualism to parasitism, with mycorrhizal benefits received by the plant being determined by climatic and edaphic conditions affecting the balance between carbon costs vs. nutritional benefits. Thus, environmental conditions promoting either parasitism or mutualism can influence the myco...
